The history nerd is alive and well! Anything interesting about the Treaty of Kadash? I feel that Hittite history is extremely underrated considering the power they had... Also, I always dance a mini-jive in my head when I come across one of your posts on the dash!
The Hittites were an extremely powerful force in the Bronze Age, who’s lands expanded over much of Anatolia, and at it’s peak, extended to Egypt. Eventually, the Hittite leader, Muwatalli II went to war with the current Egyptian leader, Ramesses II. This lead to the Battle of Kadesh, one of the largest chariot battles in history, containing roughly 5,500 chariots. The battle was largely inconclusive for both sides, with Ramesses II claiming he had won a great victory. 15 years later in 1258, Ramesses II and the new Hittite king Hattusilli III signed an agreement, proclaiming brotherhood and peace between the two nations. While the agreement was largely ignored and unenforced, it stands as the oldest known peace treaty in History.
