Mary Todd lucked out and got to deal with Abraham Lincoln, a gentleman through and throguh.
Abigail Adams had to deal with John Adams, one of the most notoriously hardheaded figures in American History.
I’m not married, but I’d be willing to bet that Abigail had it off much worse, and the fact that she stuck by John is a testament to her character. After dealing with John Adams for 54 years, I think she’d have no trouble showing Mary Todd Lincoln what’s what.
